REPEATERS & BASE STATIONS

Radio infrastructure includes both base stations and repeaters. Base stations allow a fixed
communicating point, and can be as simple as a “mobile” style radio with a power supply and a desk microphone to a fully-capable rack-mount chassis connected to a radio console or other command system via IP or analog wireline. Repeaters are utilized to extend the radius and range of a communication system and are typically located on mountaintops, the tops of buildings or other elevated structure where line-of-site is optimal. Repeaters can be stand-
alone devices operating independently or more sophisticated when used as part of a larger
